BEACHES, BURGERS and BACHELOR(ETTE) parties

Mrs romance and I love what we’ve created with romance Media.

We love the adventure we’re on, and I think this text by Tania at @thewriting on Instagram sums up what we’re doing now.

Mrs romance is back in service considering that her break over Christmas and the new Year holiday. Hair romance is ramping up for a big 2014. She starts the week off with a hair tutorial. think she’ll pumping out a lot more of these this year if my sources are correct!

Mrs R was very busy this morning working in her other capacity as a photographer. She was shooting Laura from ThisIslandLife.com at Bondi this morning.

Meanwhile, my brother, who lives in Brisbane, is in town with his wife and charming kids. It’s great to see them. Mrs R has taken them down to Coogee for a swim. I leave work as early as possible and scoot down the beach for a swim too.

The water’s surprisingly rough this afternoon, but it’s not slowing any individual down. It’s a hot one today.

Nice photobomb from the gull by the way!

This evening, I take my bro and the fam to my much-loved pub with the pledge of the best burgers in Sydney. I’m feeling the pressure, but I needn’t have worried. The royal Albert Hotel‘s Royale with Cheese is as good – if not better – than it always is.

My brother’s impressed, which takes a bit of doing for this seasoned burger-eating champ!

It’s so good in fact, I Instagram two pics – one from @mrandmrsromance and one from @angrybastard.

This morning – maybe to counteract last night’s formidable burger frenzy – Mrs romance is out running on the harbour foreshore. The view from here never gets boring.

We head to Mrs Romance’s mum’s place for the day today. but we’re back just as it’s getting dark. Mrs R is driving so I take the opportunity to snap a pretty cool photo of the Anzac Bridge. looks like something out of a sci-fi motion picture or something, doesn’t it?!

My Christmas presents from Mrs R have finally arrived! It’s actually a lot of fun getting late gifts. Makes the start of a new year, which can often be a bit depressing, a lot a lot more palatable.

Mrs romance has spoilt me with a Kindle Paperwhite, which is very cool with touch screen functionality. The t-shirts are from a dazzling company called Last exit to Nowhere. They make clothing with logos from classic and cult films. but the references to the films are really subtle – Mrs R has got me the Amity police T, which is from Jaws, and the Lighthouse Lounge T from the Goonies.

Some of you guessed the Jaws one, but only one of you got the Goonies reference. It’s not surprising, it’s a pretty obscure reference. The film, however, is an ’80s classic, and if you haven’t seen it, get it on your TV now!

We talk about one of the best brunches we’ve ever had on MrAndMrsRomance.com today. It’s at the Old Convent in Orange, NSW, and the food is brilliant. If you’re in the area, head there for the best Sunday feed you’ll have.

The Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park and it’s pool of reflection is very pretty tonight. You might not realise it at first, but this picture is upside down!

On our site today, we talk about how to get up to the top of the empire state building in nyc faster than a speeding bullet… well, faster than the rest of the crowd anyway.

If you’re heading to the big Apple at any point, make sure you go up here. look at the views – they can’t be beaten… or can they? top of the Rock’s also pretty good. What do you think?

Another early start for Mrs romance this morning gives us all a great perspective of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. It’s like she’s coming out of a jungle or something. maybe she is!

Finally it’s Friday! I’ve been waiting for a martini all week! It’s been a busy day today, so I think we’ve both earned a wind-down drink.

And writing this piece has made me even thirstier. A while ago I went to Burleigh Brewing company to check out their set-up. The beer nearly had me in tears, so we made a decision to feature their brews on Friday drinks this week.

There’s a very suspicious looking cloud floating over us this afternoon. I don’t know what it’s doing, but it doesn’t look right, does it? I was thinking Bee Gee haircut, but some of you also think it looks like a moustache. I agree. but I still don’t like it.

This morning, Mrs romance came with me to help do some clothes shopping. My much-loved thing from the bags: my new shoes. I don’t like getting shoes much – unlike Mrs R – but I’m delighted with these. hopefully they’ll be great to me and not rip holes in my delicate tootsies!

The good news is I’ve gotten Jeff Banks shoes before and they last well and are comfortable. They’re also pretty good value.

A pair of brown shoes, by the way, is an essential part of a man’s wardrobe, especially if you’re travelling. Here’s a lot more information on what a man must have in his suitcase.

I decide it’s time for a sundowner cigar. I pick out a Cohiba ‘Red Dot’ – so called because of the reddot in the ‘o’. It’s the identifying characteristic of the non-Cuban variety of this popular brand available in the USA.

I’ve been wanting to try these out ever considering that we brought them back from the States. I think I might just review this one at a later date!

After my very respectable cigar, Mrs romance cooks this exceptional dinner. This is a lime chicken salad with quinoa, avocado, rocket, kale, pomegranate and fresh figs. Delicious? That’s only halfway there!

This week’s He Said, She said talks about whether new Year’s Resolutions work. It’s an interesting one because – as it turns out – we both have the same idea but we express it in very different ways.

It’s kind of how ‘discussions’ between us work. We’re both arguing the same point of view just saying it in a different way!

It’s going to be a busy Saturday so we head out to prepare for it. The coffee at Robocog in Surry Hills is pretty good but it’s the food we’re here for.

My big breakfast is formidable. By the end of it I’m so full I have trouble moving! It’s the best set up for a big night.

Mrs romance heads off to her first party of the day. Our charming friend Sara-May from MakupUtopia.com is having her baby shower. best of luck, Sara-May. Not long now!

Meanwhile, I’m off to North Sydney Bowling Club. It’s the first part of a stag night (a.k.a bucks party or bachelor party) that must be a lot of fun. Barefoot bowls is a bit of an institution in Australia for stags.

After the bowls, a few of us head to a nearby pub to go over the game and analyse our efforts. From here, I’m terrified it’s radio silence. Besides, you probably don’t want to know too lots of details from here on!

While I’m having fun with the lads, Mrs R has moved on to her second event of the day: the hens night. Her night starts at Walsh Bay near the Rocks in Sydney. looks like the ladies are setting themselves up for a good night too.

And much like my enforced silence, this is Mrs Romance’s last photo of the night. I know that one of the two things here happened. Not sure how calm everything’s going to stay though!

Today’s all about recovering. It’s a kicked back mood here. things get even better when Mrs R cooks up another delicious dinner. Kale chips, a rocket and tomato salad with truffle vinegar dressing, and a ginger and lemon salmon steak with a mango and chilli salsa.

It’s a healthy end to an otherwise rather unhealthy weekend!

How was your weekend? tell us about it in the comments!
